Cairo: Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem asserted that the electrical and engineering industries are among the seven priority sectors in the Egyptian Industry Strategy 2030 due to their high added value, promising export potential, and pivotal role in localizing technology and deepening local manufacturing to meet domestic market needs and boost exports.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this announcement was made during a meeting held by the industry minister with ABB Egypt Chairman Ahmed Hammad. The meeting focused on discussing the company's expansion plans in the Egyptian market and its role in supporting national projects. The discussions highlighted the company's manufacturing capabilities, with its main factory in 10th of Ramadan City serving as ABB's primary hub for the Middle East and Africa, along with two additional factories located in the Nasr City and Suez free zones.
Company officials noted that the local component in some products reaches 78%, and the company exported about 25% of its total 2025 production to over 50 countries. Furthermore, its export markets expanded during the first half of 2026 to more than 60 countries. The meeting also covered the company's strategies to rationalize energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions within its factories, aiming to enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian products in European and global markets. ABB also expressed interest in participating in the "Industry Sun" initiative by installing solar power plants on its factory roofs, alongside revisiting prominent national projects it has co-executed.
Minister Hashem emphasized the ministry's commitment to supporting ABB by addressing any challenges it faces in its expansion efforts in Egypt. He underlined the importance of the company continuing to develop its local supplier network and increasing the local component and added value.
ABB Egypt Chairman Ahmed Hammad reaffirmed the significance of the Egyptian market as one of the company's most important strategic markets in the region. He highlighted ABB's long-standing history of over 100 years in Egypt, reflecting its dedication to supporting industrial development by transferring the latest technologies and continually investing in local capabilities. Hammad added that ABB remains committed to providing integrated solutions that enhance operational efficiency, productivity, and energy consumption reduction across various industrial sectors, aligning with state goals to build a more advanced and sustainable industrial sector.
