Industry Minister Discusses Haier Egypt’s Current Projects and Expansion Plans

Cairo: Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem affirmed that the Ministry of Industry values the presence of a major industrial and technological entity such as Haier Egypt in the country, expressing the ministry's interest in seeing the company further expand its operations in the Egyptian market. He said the company's expansion reflects the confidence of global industrial companies in the Egyptian economy and the ability of Egypt's investment climate to attract further foreign direct investment and localize advanced technologies. Hashem made the remarks during a meeting with representatives of Haier Egypt for Electrical Appliances, headed by the company's CEO Yang Linping, to discuss the company's ongoing projects and expansion plans in the Egyptian market. The meeting was also attended by Mohamed Sami, Assistant Minister for Strategic Affairs.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting reviewed the implementation status of Haier Egypt's environmentally friendly industrial complex, located on an area of 200,000 square meters in 10th of Ramadan City. The complex comprises four specialized factories producing central and household air conditioners, various types of washing machines, televisions and electronic screens, in addition to a factory for metal forming, plastic injection molding, and painting.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for the inauguration of the complex's second phase next November. The phase will include the production of refrigerators and freezers, with an annual production capacity exceeding 500,000 units, thereby enhancing the company's production capabilities and supporting its expansion plans in both domestic and international markets. Company representatives also highlighted the industrial complex's reliance on clean energy to operate its production activities, in line with the state's efforts to expand the use of clean energy applications and promote sustainable industrial practices.

The minister said the company's expansions represent an important addition to Egyptian industry by creating new production capacities and export opportunities while contributing to meeting domestic market needs and strengthening Egypt's position as a regional manufacturing and export hub. Hashem stressed the need for the company to intensify efforts to increase the local component and value added in its products by exploring the possibility of manufacturing certain precision components used in central air-conditioning systems, including chillers, which would contribute to deepening local manufacturing and reducing the import bill.

He also underscored the importance of developing and qualifying a base of local suppliers capable of meeting the company's requirements for production inputs in accordance with the required specifications and standards. For his part, Yang Linping, CEO of Haier Egypt for Electrical Appliances, praised the continued support and fruitful cooperation provided by the Ministry of Industry and its affiliated entities to the company. Yang also highlighted the company's keenness to rely on Egyptian workers and national talent while strengthening local manufacturing capabilities, thereby supporting economic development objectives and promoting the 'Made in Egypt' brand in global markets.
