Cairo: The House of Representatives, chaired by Speaker Hisham Badawi, resumed its general sessions on Monday, July 13, 2026, for a two-day sitting to discuss reports submitted by its specialized committees on a number of draft laws and international agreements.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Monday's session began with deliberations on a joint committee report concerning a government-drafted bill on the reorganization of the 'Future of Egypt' for Sustainable Development Authority. The draft law aims to restructure the authority into a special entity with greater administrative and financial flexibility, enabling it to adopt more efficient and less complex procedures to better fulfill its mandate. Furthermore, the proposed framework is intended to enhance the authority's role in advancing sustainable development through a balanced approach that promotes competitiveness, strengthens governance, transparency and disclosure, and reinforces its function as a key driver of sustainable development.
On Tuesday, the House is scheduled to discuss committee reports on several international agreements, including Presidential Decree No. 217 of 2026 approving Egypt's subscription to the nineteenth general capital increase of the International Development Association (IDA), as authorized under IDA Board of Governors Resolution No. 244. Lawmakers will also review Presidential Decree No. 218 of 2026 approving Egypt's subscription to the twentieth general capital increase of the IDA under Board of Governors Resolution No. 248, as well as Presidential Decree No. 581 of 2025 approving the interpretive annex to Article 17 of the headquarters agreement between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the League of Arab States.
The House will also continue discussing the remaining items on its agenda for the week during Tuesday's session.
