FM Voices Hope for Ceasefire Breakthrough via US-Iran Talks


Antalya: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty expressed hope that ongoing US-Iran negotiations would help secure a ceasefire and pave the way toward broader understandings that lead to an end to ongoing conflicts.



According to State Information Service Egypt, the minister’s remarks came during a meeting with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Yvette Cooper on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. This meeting was part of regular consultations between Egypt and the United Kingdom aimed at enhancing bilateral ties and exchanging views on regional developments.



Abdelatty praised the positive momentum in Egyptian-British relations and expressed Egypt’s aspiration to further advance cooperation across various fields of mutual interest in the coming period. He highlighted the importance of high-level visits between the two countries, which reflect the depth of bilateral ties, and emphasized efforts to attract further British investments through the participation of major UK companies in a planned investment conference aimed at boosting economic relations.



The minister further stressed cooperation on migration issues, emphasizing the need to address root causes through a development-oriented approach. Regarding regional developments, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s efforts to contain escalating tensions across the region.



Regarding the situation in Sudan, Abdelatty underlined the urgent need to reach a humanitarian truce as a step toward a comprehensive ceasefire and the launch of an inclusive political process led by the Sudanese people, while ensuring unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid. He also highlighted Egypt’s role in the international quartet addressing the Sudan crisis.



Both ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and expand their scope, particularly in the economic, trade, and investment sectors. They also stressed the importance of continued coordination and consultation to support regional and international security and stability.
