New york: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the pivotal role played by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in supporting member states, particularly in implementing and managing development programs and projects.

According to State Information Service Egypt, he made the remarks during a meeting on Monday, September 21, 2026, with UNOPS Executive Director Jorge Moreira da Silva on the sidelines of his participation in the high-level segment of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. Abdelatty stressed Egypt's interest in strengthening cooperation with UNOPS and benefiting from its technical expertise and project implementation capabilities, as well as its ability to mobilize financing and development partners more effectively, particularly in priority sectors including health, transport, infrastructure, and digital transformation.

He said such cooperation would support national efforts to achieve Egypt's development goals. Abdelatty also reaffirmed Egypt's support for efforts to reform and improve the efficiency of the UN system and strengthen its ability to respond to member states' priorities. He stressed that the reform process should be based on an objective and transparent assessment that takes into account operational efficiency, economic viability, and the actual impact on the ground.

The meeting also covered regional developments. Abdelatty stressed the importance of de-escalation and prioritizing political solutions to strengthen regional security and stability, and underscored the need to ensure the security and freedom of maritime navigation in accordance with international law.
