FM Meets UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Sudan

Cairo: Egypt expressed its expectation that the outcomes of the fifth meeting of the Consultative Mechanism to Enhance and Coordinate Peace Efforts in Sudan, scheduled for Wednesday in Cairo, will bolster international initiatives aimed at restoring peace and stability in Sudan. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with Ramadhane Lamamra, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Sudan, and reiterated Egypt's steadfast support for Sudan during this critical period in its history. He welcomed the envoy's participation in the upcoming consultative meeting.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during the meeting, Abdelatty outlined Egypt's stance on developments in Sudan, emphasizing the priority of preserving the country's unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions as essential pillars for restoring stability. He also reviewed ongoing Egyptian engagements with Sudan, including his November 2025 visit to Port Sudan.

The minister highlighted Egypt's efforts to achieve a humanitarian ceasefire, in coordination with regional and international partners, and reaffirmed Egypt's continued support for the Sudanese people, noting the country's hosting of large numbers of Sudanese nationals. He stressed Egypt's commitment to fulfilling its historical and humanitarian responsibilities toward Sudan.

Lamamra, in turn, expressed deep appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role in supporting Sudan, commending its political and humanitarian initiatives, as well as its active participation in ceasefire efforts and preparation for a comprehensive political process aimed at ending the suffering of the Sudanese people and enhancing the prospects for stability.
