Petroleum Minister Represents Egypt at International Mining Conference in Riyadh

Riyadh: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawy participated on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, on behalf of Egypt in the Ministers of Mining Roundtable, which was chaired by Saudi Arabia's Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Al-Khorayef. The meeting brought together ministers and officials from the mining sector representing 100 countries, alongside 70 leaders of international organizations and institutions concerned with mining and financing.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was held as part of the activities of the International Mining Conference, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh from January 13 to 15 under the theme 'Minerals. Meeting the Challenges of a New Era of Development.' The conference is witnessing high-level Egyptian participation from the mining sector, led by Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawy with the aim of showcasing and promoting investment opportunities in light of the new reforms, incentives, and fundamentals that support attracting further investments in mineral exploration and exploitation in Egypt.

The minister affirmed that Egypt's participation in the previous edition of the International Mining Conference in Riyadh provided an important opportunity to transfer advanced expertise and models, which helped support efforts to develop an investment-attractive legislative framework for the mining sector. It also contributed to strengthening human capacity-building programs and to training and qualifying mining professionals through more advanced models aligned with global best practices.

The meeting discussed priorities for international cooperation in the mining sector, including mineral supply chains, infrastructure financing, and human capacity-building, in addition to enhancing transparency and sustainability in the mining industry.

Discussions also addressed strengthening international coordination to confront challenges and to advance the role of the mining sector in development.
