Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Saturday, August 29, 2026, with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide. At the beginning of the call, Minister Abdelatty expressed his sincere condolences to the Kingdom of Norway on the passing of King Harald V, expressing his deepest sympathy and solidarity with the Royal Family and the Norwegian people over this painful loss.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Norwegian minister expressed his deep appreciation for President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's kind gesture on Friday in publishing a message of condolences on the passing of the King of Norway. The call addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.

The two ministers affirmed their commitment to continuing efforts to develop cooperation in various fields and build on the progress in Egyptian-Norwegian relations in a manner that serves the shared interests of the two friendly peoples.

The two ministers also exchanged views and assessments on a number of regional issues and developments of mutual concern, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, as well as the situations in Lebanon and Syria. They also discussed developments related to the Iranian file, stressing the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts, de-escalation, and prioritizing political and peaceful solutions to prevent further tension and instability in the region.

The call also addressed efforts to reach a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
