Egypt and Turkey Emphasize Diplomatic Efforts to De-escalate Regional Tensions

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed, during a phone call held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, the latest developments in the regional situation and efforts to contain the current escalation.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the two ministers stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to achieve de-escalation and reduce tensions, and to work toward restoring the diplomatic and negotiating track between Iran and the US.

They also underscored the importance of adhering to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, in a call held as part of ongoing coordination between the two countries on regional issues of mutual concern.

The two sides emphasized that these efforts would help create an environment conducive to reaching comprehensive and sustainable understandings that could contribute to consolidating regional security and stability.
