Islamabad: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriate Affairs Badr Abdelatty handed over a written message from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, focusing on advancing bilateral relations between Egypt and Pakistan. Abdelatty, currently on an official visit to Islamabad, conveyed President El-Sisi's greetings to the Pakistani president, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khalaf.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's appreciation for the historic relations with Pakistan and noted the significant development of bilateral ties. He articulated aspirations to prepare a joint roadmap to enhance cooperation throughout 2026, covering political, economic, commercial, military, security, religious, and cultural sectors. The Foreign Minister emphasized expanding cooperation in the economy, trade, and investment, aiming to increase trade exchange to reflect the potential of both countries.
Abdelatty reviewed the economic reforms implemented by the Egyptian government in recent years and highlighted the importance of activating the joint business council and the joint council between the Egyptian and Pakistani chambers of commerce. This aims to revitalize economic, commercial, and investment cooperation between the two nations.
The Egyptian diplomat expressed interest in facilitating commercial and economic connectivity between the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) and the Pakistani Gwadar Port. He also explored the prospects of localizing value-added industries in the SCZONE. On regional developments, Abdelatty reviewed issues of mutual interest, including developments in the Gaza Strip. He stressed the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2803 regarding Gaza and advancing phase two of US President Donald Trump's peace plan.
Abdelatty affirmed the necessity of enabling the International Stabilization Force (ISF) to solidify the ceasefire and reviewed preparations for the international conference for early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza. The Pakistani President extended greetings and appreciation to President Sisi, praised Egypt's role in supporting regional security and stability, and affirmed Pakistan's commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields.
