Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty announced on Saturday, June 27, 2026, that Egypt is adopting a comprehensive vision for reforming the United Nations. This vision aims to enhance the capacity of international financial institutions and multilateral development banks to provide affordable and sustainable financing for developing countries. The plan also focuses on addressing the debt crisis to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and support climate action efforts without imposing additional burdens on developing nations.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Foreign Minister made these remarks during a meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed. The discussion centered on enhancing cooperation between Egypt and the UN, as well as exchanging views on prominent regional and international issues. Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the close partnership between Egypt and the United Nations, reaffirming Egypt's steadfast support for the multilateral international system and its commitment to international law and the UN Charter.
He also lauded the decisive stances of UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres and his deputy in leading the organization and upholding their mandate to enforce the UN Charter and confront violations of international law. Furthermore, Abdelatty commended the UN's role in maintaining international peace and security, emphasizing the importance of adhering to international law, humanitarian law, and human rights law in various conflicts, particularly concerning ongoing Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
