Cairo: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty chaired the seventh ministerial meeting of the Supreme Standing Committee for Human Rights with the participation of Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy, Justice Minister Mahmoud Helmy El Sherif, Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom, General Supervisor of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities Iman Karim, and representatives of member national authorities. Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the ongoing committee efforts to upgrade Egypt's human rights system and improve citizen living conditions following presidential directives.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Foreign Minister highlighted preparations for the second five-year National Strategy 2026-2031 following intensive consultations with experts, youth, parliament members, and civil society to ensure it effectively develops the national approach. He reviewed Egypt's active role during the 61st session of the Human Rights Council in light of its membership for the 2026-2028 period and affirmed continued cooperation with regional and international human rights mechanisms and special rapporteurs. Legislative proposals to improve domestic human rights conditions were also discussed.
Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy reviewed family and child support efforts through economic empowerment and social protection programs that achieved tangible results in recent years. She noted that these successes were highlighted at the Human Rights Council in Geneva with special priority given to the right to development in the second national strategy.
Justice Minister Mahmoud Helmy El Sherif confirmed ongoing legislative development to align with constitutional and international standards, noting shifts in criminal legislation and expanded reform centers to support social reintegration. He also noted legislative efforts focused on supporting and empowering women across various fields.
Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom expressed readiness to provide accurate development data to support transparency and facilitate field visits for UN special rapporteurs to national projects. The meeting concluded with an interactive discussion on national efforts to upgrade human rights across political, economic, social, and cultural fields.
