Environment Ministry Explores Sustainable Investment Opportunities Within Natural Reserves

Cairo: Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment Manal Awad held a meeting with an investor to discuss opportunities for enhancing environmental investment within natural reserves.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Awad emphasized the government's focus on environmental investment as a promising method for developing the resources of natural reserves and promoting the green economy. This initiative also supports ecotourism, which is gaining traction both locally and internationally.

The Minister insisted that investments in natural reserves must adhere to strict regulations to protect ecosystems and preserve natural resources. She highlighted the ministry's strategy of integrating economic development with nature conservation. This involves designing projects that respect each reserve's unique characteristics and using materials and designs that blend with the environment.

Awad noted that any proposed projects should reflect the environmental identity and cultural heritage of each reserve, enhancing the tourism experience without harming natural resources. Egypt's reserves hold unique features that make them prime destinations for global ecotourism.

During the meeting, the minister stressed the necessity of submitting detailed technical and environmental studies for any proposed project. These studies should encompass environmental impact assessments, sustainable management plans, and mechanisms to mitigate potential effects on natural resources. Experts from the Nature Protection Sector and other specialized departments within the ministry will review these studies to ensure compliance with environmental standards and investment regulations within reserves.

Awad also mentioned that the government is open to partnerships with the private sector in ecotourism projects, provided there is full adherence to environmental standards and regulations. This is crucial to protect reserves and preserve their natural resources for future generations.

The Ministry of Environment is working on developing environmental infrastructure within reserves, improving visitor services, and implementing a modern management system for tourism activities. These efforts, in collaboration with the private and investment sectors, aim to balance development with nature conservation and enhance Egypt's role as a regional leader in natural reserve management.
