Cairo: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat recently engaged in discussions with Daniel Calderon, Founder and Managing Partner of UAE-based Alcazar Energy. The meeting focused on the latest developments in the implementation of 1,500-megawatt wind energy projects situated in Zaafarana and south Hurghada.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the talks were centered on the progress of the projects managed by Alcazar Energy, ensuring adherence to the implementation timetable, accelerating executive procedures, and facilitating the projects' connection to the unified national electricity grid as per the scheduled deadlines.

During the meeting, Minister Esmat reviewed various workflow developments, implementation measures already taken, and progress rates. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the project timeline, grid connection, and operational launch, while highlighting the necessary procedures to accelerate execution and increase completion rates.

The discussions specifically addressed the status of the two main projects: a 500-megawatt wind energy project in Zaafarana and a 1,000-megawatt project in south Hurghada, which is being executed in two phases.

This meeting is part of the broader national plan updates aimed at enhancing the role of renewable energy in Egypt's energy mix. This requires accelerating implementation, reducing execution periods, and ensuring continuous monitoring of progress rates and timelines in alignment with the National Energy Strategy.

Minister Esmat reaffirmed the State's vision for the energy transition, highlighting the timetables and scheduled grid connection dates for the renewable energy projects currently underway. He also mentioned ongoing coordination and follow-up efforts with development partners to avoid potential obstacles that could impact the projects' timelines.
