Egypt’s Prime Minister Highlights Advancements in Mining Sector

New Capital:Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly emphasized the Egyptian government's commitment to exploring the country's geological potential and integrating its mineral wealth with markets, industry, energy, and infrastructure. He noted the implementation of significant investments to bolster the mining industry.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouly's remarks were made during a roundtable at the New Capital, titled "From Discovery to Industrial Development: Building Investor Confidence across Egypt's Mining Value Chain." This event was part of the fifth Egypt Mining Forum 2026, held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Madbouly asserted that Egypt's mining sector is transitioning into a new phase, with the government addressing structural issues that previously hindered investment. The sector's roadmap now appears promising, offering substantial potential in various mining areas. He stressed the importance of converting the forum's outcomes into tangible projects, in line with the President's directives to accelerate project timelines and collaborate with partners to expedite production.

The government is prepared to offer incentives, facilities, and partnerships to speed up the transition to production. Madbouly highlighted the necessity of active participation from all stakeholders in developing this vital sector.

Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi and Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat also contributed to discussions, emphasizing the importance of stable electricity for mining projects and the creation of real mineral wealth and value addition.

Participants at the forum discussed factors crucial for attracting mining investment, such as geological potential, infrastructure, and policy stability. They underscored the need for effective communication with the government to enhance the investment climate and cooperation across various ministries.

The discussions emphasized infrastructure's role in transitioning from mining to processing and manufacturing, enhancing added value. Participants also explored how Egypt might leverage its processing capabilities to become a regional hub for certain minerals, thus strengthening its role in mining value chains.

Egypt's potential in gold production and its strategic location as a link between the Middle East and Africa were highlighted, offering opportunities for partnerships with gold exploration companies. Energy needs and arrangements for mining projects were also discussed, given their critical role in related industries.

Industry Minister Khaled Hashem and National Council for Women President Amal Ammar discussed linking raw materials to manufacturing and the increasing role of women in the sector.

Concluding the roundtable, Madbouly welcomed investor contributions to the promising mining sector and reiterated the state's efforts to improve the investment climate. He expressed readiness to engage with participants and ministers to explore new proposals and partnerships in the mining sector.
