Cairo:Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, emphasized the country's potential to establish a robust mining sector that could significantly contribute to the national economy.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Badawi delivered these remarks during the opening of the fifth edition of the Egypt Mining Forum, attended by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The minister highlighted the ongoing support from President El-Sisi, who prioritizes optimizing Egypt's natural resources and expanding investment opportunities.
Badawi detailed Egypt's geological wealth, particularly in the Eastern Desert and South Sinai, which are part of the Arabian-Nubian Shield. This region offers promising exploration prospects for minerals such as gold, copper, nickel, and rare earth elements. He also mentioned Egypt's strategic advantages, including abundant energy resources, a developed infrastructure, and its strategic location linking three continents via the Suez Canal.
The minister noted that a comprehensive legislative framework, including Law No. 78 of 2025, has been established to enhance the management of mineral resources. This law reorganizes the Mineral Resources Authority into the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority, aiming to improve resource management through economic principles.
Badawi stressed the importance of engaging with investors to understand their needs and challenges. He mentioned that the ministry has been collecting insights from global mining markets to incorporate best practices. This dialogue has led to the development of incentives aimed at creating a more attractive and competitive investment climate for both Egyptian and foreign investors.
