Egypt’s Foreign Minister Calls for Diplomacy Amid Iran-Israel Tensions

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty emphasized the importance of diplomacy and political solutions in addressing the growing tensions in the Middle East. He warned against further escalation that could destabilize the region.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty, in a phone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, highlighted the need for an immediate ceasefire and a return to negotiations as essential steps toward reaching a sustainable agreement on Iran's nuclear program. The discussion also covered bilateral relations and recent developments in the Middle East, with both ministers expressing satisfaction with the progress in Egyptian-Chinese ties and a commitment to enhancing cooperation in various sectors.

Regionally, Abdelatty informed Wang about Egypt's efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and Israel, emphasizing the potential severe consequences for regional security if the conflict were to escalate further. Wang expressed support for Egypt's position and noted the strong alignment between Beijing and Cairo on this issue. He also praised a joint statement issued on June 16 by 24 Arab and Islamic countries, led by Egypt, advocating for an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of talks as the only path to a lasting agreement on Iran's nuclear issue.
