Egypt’s 2025 Parliamentary Elections Witness High Turnout in Second Phase

Cairo: Observers from the International Coalition for Integrity reported that the second phase of Egypt's 2025 parliamentary elections is proceeding smoothly, with a notable high turnout, particularly among youth, women, and the elderly. The observers noted the absence of campaigning outside polling stations during the first day of voting on Monday.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the observers informed MENA that they witnessed orderly procedures and professional facilitation by authorities across several governorates. The head of the coalition mentioned that early impressions suggest this election could be one of the 'most inclusive' in recent times, with a strong public willingness to participate. Observers from Greece, Uganda, and China also praised the organization, voter assistance, and accessibility measures in place.

The second phase of the elections spans two days and covers 13 governorates, involving nearly 35 million eligible voters across 73 districts and over 5,200 polling stations. A total of 1,316 individual candidates are vying for 141 seats, alongside one electoral list. The polls are being supervised by judicial authorities to ensure transparency and fairness.

The National Election Authority emphasized a strict ban on campaigning during the legally mandated silence period, warning that results could be annulled at any station where violations occur. The authority has also expanded facilities for elderly voters and individuals with disabilities, providing ground-floor stations, QR-code guidance materials, and ballots in sign language and Braille to enhance accessibility. The election process is being closely monitored by both regional and international organizations.
