Dakar: Egyptian Ambassador in Dakar Khaled Aref affirmed the importance of Egypt's active role in supporting African issues at all levels, and the necessity of enhancing African solidarity and cooperation among the continent's countries to achieve common goals, particularly those related to stability and development.
According to State Information Service Egypt, during a meeting with Senegal's Minister of State for Senegalese Abroad Amadou Diouf on the sidelines of the celebration of "Africa Day" on Gor©e Island in Senegal, the ambassador emphasized that current challenges require collective action, strengthening continental cooperation and integration, and adopting African-led solutions.
He also highlighted Egypt's nomination of Dr. Khaled El-Anany for the position of Director-General of UNESCO, aiming to serve as a strong voice for Africa in protecting heritage and promoting cultural diversity, especially in sites that represent the collective memory of African peoples, such as Gor©e Island.
Ambassador Khaled Aref participated in the "Africa Day" celebration, marked annually on May 25, on Gor©e Island, alongside African ambassadors and the Senegalese Minister of State for Senegalese Abroad. The event was filled with historical symbolism.
During the celebration, participants visited the "House of Slaves," where they observed a minute of silence before the "Door of No Return," in remembrance of the millions of victims who passed through this site during the era of the slave trade. This event aligned with the African Union's theme for 2025: "Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations."
