Cairo: Egypt is following up with deep concern the rapid developments in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), including the deteriorating humanitarian situation in certain areas, which presents urgent challenges for civilians.

According to State Information Service Egypt, in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Egypt reaffirmed its consistent support for the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of Congo. Egypt also stressed the importance of de-escalation and halting any escalation in such a manner that contributes to creating an environment supportive of dialogue and restoring stability.

Egypt emphasized the importance of adhering to the Washington peace accord as a basic framework for building trust and reducing tension, and the need to implement the practical steps stipulated therein to achieve peace in Eastern DRC. Cairo also underscored the importance of ceasing all hostilities and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid, affirming the need to support regional and international efforts to improve the humanitarian situation and prevent further deterioration.

Finally, Egypt reiterated its support for regional and international efforts to improve security and stability, ease the suffering of those affected, and back every initiative that helps establish peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
