Egypt Showcases Social Protection Model at Arab-Asian Forum

Cairo: The Ministry of Social Solidarity of Egypt presented its social welfare and protection experience during the opening session of an Arab-Asian parliamentarians forum. Ayman Abdel Mawgoud, the ministry's undersecretary, delivered remarks on behalf of Minister Maya Morsy, in the presence of several cabinet members, lawmakers, and international representatives, including Japan's ambassador to Egypt and UNFPA officials.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdel Mawgoud outlined Egypt's development model, which is centered on three core pillars: human dignity, social security, and inclusive participation. He emphasized initiatives aimed at empowering youth, advancing reproductive health, and addressing gender-based violence. The country's social policy prioritizes women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, ensuring 'no one is left behind' in Egypt's vision for a new republic.

The official highlighted major initiatives such as conditional cash transfers for mothers linked to education and health, entrepreneurship and skills training for women, and unified economic empowerment programs for low-income families, including Takaful and Karama beneficiaries. Abdel Mawgoud noted the existence of 13 shelters for survivors of domestic violence and family counseling offices that have reached over 19,000 households.

Abdel Mawgoud also mentioned the Mawada marriage-preparation program, which has benefited 1.8 million young people since 2019, and the early childhood initiative supporting over 1.2 million families and 1,347 nurseries. For older persons, 176 care homes serve 4,750 residents, while 190 senior clubs host 56,000 participants. He described the past decade as a 'golden era' for persons with disabilities, citing over 1.3 million integrated services cards issued, 1.31 million beneficiaries of financial aid, and nearly 47,000 assistive devices distributed.

He concluded by stating that Egypt's social solidarity strategy is rooted in a developmental vision that prioritizes social justice as key to national stability. He emphasized that parliaments play a crucial role in transforming aspirations into binding legislation and securing sustained resources.
