Egypt, Pakistan FMs Stress Importance of US-Iran Understanding in Reducing Regional Tensions

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty expressed appreciation for Pakistan's efforts, undertaken in coordination with regional partners. He highlighted that these efforts contributed to the conclusion of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Sunday, June 21, 2026, with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on the sidelines of a four-party regional meeting hosted by Cairo. The talks focused on ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, as well as regional and international developments of mutual interest.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf said that Abdelatty underscored the importance of the understanding reached between Washington and Tehran in helping de-escalate tensions, prevent further regional escalation and create conditions conducive to reaching a final and sustainable agreement that would enhance regional security and stability.

The two ministers praised the longstanding ties and close relations between Egypt and Pakistan, reaffirming their commitment to advancing cooperation across the political, economic, trade and investment fields, while exploring new avenues of partnership that serve the mutual interests of both countries and peoples.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of following up on the outcomes of his recent visit to Pakistan and expressed hope that the fourth session of the Egyptian-Pakistani Joint Ministerial Committee, co-chaired by the two foreign ministers, as well as the tenth round of political consultations at the ministerial level, would be convened soon to provide additional momentum to bilateral relations and existing cooperation frameworks.

He also highlighted the need to strengthen economic and investment cooperation through business delegations and reciprocal visits between business communities and chambers of commerce and industry in both countries. The Foreign Minister further called for linking Pakistani investors with promising investment opportunities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and expressed hope for completing procedures related to the establishment of the Egyptian-Pakistani Business Council.
