Cairo: The Egyptian Tourism Authority (ETA), led by CEO Ahmed Youssef, has taken a significant step to enhance Egypt's global tourism profile by hosting a delegation of leading German travel agents and tour operators. This initiative is part of the board's broader strategy to boost Egypt's competitiveness as a tourist destination and solidify its presence in key European markets, particularly Germany. The German market is recognized as one of the largest contributors to Egypt's tourism sector.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Youssef emphasized that the board is focusing on promotional plans that involve direct engagement with decision-makers in the global tourism industry. The aim is to acquaint them with Egypt's diverse tourism offerings, which include cultural, beach, and entertainment options, alongside showcasing ongoing developments in the nation's tourism infrastructure.
Youssef further highlighted the crucial role that travel agents and tour operators play in tourism marketing and sales. Their influence on tourists' decisions and trust is vital, making the hosting of such delegations a strategic move to bolster bookings and increase tourist visits to Egypt in the near future.
Recently, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, through the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board, organized a familiarization trip for a delegation of 50 prominent travel agents and tour operators from Germany. This initiative was executed in collaboration with the German Travel Agencies Association (RTK). The delegation's itinerary included a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum, where they were welcomed by the museum authority's CEO, Ahmed Ghoneim, and introduced to the museum's significant artifacts and exhibition setup. Additionally, the delegates explored the Giza Pyramids and the Citadel of Salah El-Din.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Farag, director of the Egyptian Tourist Office in Berlin, noted that RTK is the largest alliance of travel and tourism agencies in Germany and Europe, boasting over 3,000 sales offices and travel agents. The association enjoys the trust of more than 100,000 clients. Farag also mentioned that Hurghada hosted RTK's annual conference last November, which saw the participation of 450 travel agents.
