Egypt Expands Development Role in Africa and Global South in 2025

Cairo: The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) said that it continued, in 2025, to implement programs and projects aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation and capacity building in Africa and the Global South, in line with directives from the political leadership to consolidate Egypt's role in supporting sustainable development. The agency added that these efforts reflect the humanitarian dimension of Egyptian diplomacy and support the Sustainable Development Goals as well as Africa's Agenda 2063.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the agency said that it carried out medical convoys and provided health assistance to several African countries, covering specialized fields such as cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, and spinal surgery. These initiatives contributed to the provision of screening and treatment services, surgical interventions, and the training of local medical personnel. It added that it implemented 94 training programs in health, agriculture, education, energy, and water resources management, with the participation of 1,688 trainees from Africa and the Global South, in cooperation with Egyptian state bodies and institutions.

The agency said it also implemented development projects in Nile Basin countries under the Nile Initiative, covering the health, electricity, and water sectors. It cited efforts to support economic diplomacy, including the establishment of a mechanism to finance and study development projects in Nile Basin countries under a 2025 cabinet decision, as well as the preparation of an African investment map to promote Egyptian private-sector participation. The agency said the initiatives underscore Egypt's position as a reliable development partner supporting stability and comprehensive, sustainable development in Africa and the Global South.
