Cairo:The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates has announced continued efforts to strengthen migration governance, following President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives. These efforts aim to open new pathways for Egyptian workers and address the root causes of irregular migration by linking migration to development.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministry has launched seven programs to facilitate the movement of trained Egyptian workers to seven European countries. These initiatives are part of a national effort to align training and qualification programs with international labor market needs and create safe job opportunities.
The ministry highlighted that 2026 will mark ten years without any irregular migration boats departing from Egypt for Europe. This achievement aligns with a reported 67% decrease in irregular migration by Egyptians to Europe this year.
Additionally, Egypt has secured over $500 million in international funding for migration-governance projects and approximately $50 million for a joint program supporting migrants, refugees, and host communities. Despite these efforts, Egypt continues to face significant challenges as it hosts millions of refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants, amid declining international funding. The ministry reiterated the need for sustained financial and technical support and greater international burden-sharing.
