Egypt and Yemen Discuss Joint Efforts to Free Hijacked Egyptian Sailors

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Yemeni Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Shaya Mohsin Zindani discussed the latest efforts to secure the release of Egyptian sailors held aboard a vessel hijacked off the Somali coast.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during a phone call on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the two ministers reviewed ongoing coordination in light of the vessel being owned by a Yemeni national. They agreed to continue close cooperation and intensify efforts to secure the sailors' release and ensure their safety.

The call also covered ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Yemen as part of the ongoing coordination between the two countries.
