Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdellaty and United States Secretary of State Mr. Marco Rubio engaged in a telephone conversation to address the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States. The discussion, which took place on Thursday evening, focused on regional developments amid escalating conflicts.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the two ministers exchanged views on various regional issues, including the situation in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa, as well as Egyptian water security concerns. The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, highlighted the need for political and diplomatic solutions to prevent further violence in the region.
Minister Abdellaty emphasized Egypt's condemnation of attacks on the Gulf States, Jordan, Iraq, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, reiterating that there is no justification for infringing on the security and sovereignty of these nations. He warned of the potential repercussions of ongoing conflicts, stressing the importance of international cooperation to maintain regional stability.
The call also covered developments in the Gaza Strip following the Peace Council meeting in Washington. Minister Abdellaty reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to supporting peace initiatives, including the deployment of the International Stabilization Force and providing humanitarian aid to the area.
Regarding the Horn of Africa, Minister Abdellaty underscored the importance of maintaining the sovereignty and stability of Eritrea and Somalia while rejecting any recognition of "Somaliland." He expressed concerns over actions that could threaten regional security.
On the issue of water security, Minister Abdellaty appreciated President Donald Trump's efforts in promoting peace and stability. He highlighted the significance of the Nile River for Egypt and advocated for cooperation with Nile Basin countries in line with international law.
Minister Abdellaty also addressed the situation in Sudan, highlighting the importance of respecting its sovereignty and supporting its national institutions. He commended US efforts in promoting peace and expressed hope for continued collaboration to support Sudan's political process.
Concerning Lebanon, Minister Abdellaty reiterated Egypt's support for its sovereignty and called for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. He emphasized the need for Lebanon to consolidate control over its territory and resources.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised the strong relations between the two countries and Egypt's contributions to regional security. The ministers agreed to continue consultations on regional and international issues to support global security and stability.
