Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty affirmed on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, during his meeting with Dr. Khaled El-Enany, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Egypt's commitment to continuing its close cooperation with the organization, based on its belief in the importance of investing in education and culture as two fundamental pillars for achieving sustainable development.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting reviewed ways to strengthen the existing cooperation between Egypt and UNESCO in support of the country's sustainable development goals and the advancement of its educational, scientific, and cultural systems. During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty expressed appreciation for UNESCO's pivotal role in safeguarding cultural and human heritage and enhancing the quality of education, particularly in light of the growing challenges facing the region and the world. He also reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to supporting UNESCO's efforts to strengthen multilateral cooperation and promote dialogue among civilizations and cultures.

The discussions also addressed ways to support joint projects in the fields of cultural heritage protection, expanding the use of technology, developing educational systems, and supporting youth empowerment and capacity-building programs. The two sides also reviewed Egypt's national efforts to preserve archaeological and heritage sites and develop cultural infrastructure, reflecting the depth of Egyptian civilization and its contribution to humanity's shared heritage.

Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of continued coordination between Egypt and UNESCO to support Africa's priorities in education, culture, and science. He noted that such cooperation would contribute to strengthening African national capacities, enhancing the protection and preservation of the continent's cultural heritage, and leveraging technology and innovation to modernize educational systems, thereby promoting regional integration and advancing Africa's sustainable development priorities.

For his part, Dr. Khaled El-Enany expressed his appreciation for Egypt's role as an active partner in advancing UNESCO's agenda, praising the country's efforts in the fields of education, culture, and science. He also reaffirmed UNESCO's commitment to expanding cooperation with Egypt across areas of mutual interest in support of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, promoting dialogue among civilizations, and reinforcing the values of peace and mutual understanding at both the regional and international levels.
