Egypt and Thailand Discuss Expanding Parliamentary and Economic Cooperation

Bangkok:Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Thai Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Nirat Yubakdi and members of the committee to explore ways of strengthening bilateral ties, focusing on parliamentary and economic cooperation.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was part of Abdelatty's visit to Bangkok. Discussions included boosting legislative exchanges, increasing high-level parliamentary visits, and sharing expertise and best practices.

Abdelatty emphasized the importance of building on the positive momentum in bilateral relations to enhance trade, investment, and economic cooperation. He referenced a memorandum of understanding from December 2024, which established a joint trade committee and framework for economic partnerships.

He suggested that Thailand could act as a gateway for Egyptian products and investment into ASEAN markets, while Egypt could offer Thai companies access to African and European markets. Abdelatty also welcomed Thailand's increasing engagement with Africa and called for closer cooperation, drawing on Egypt's established role on the continent.

The talks also covered regional and international issues, with a focus on developments in the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, highlighting the need for ongoing coordination and consultation.
