Madrid:Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk met with Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Luis Planas Puchades to discuss enhancing agricultural collaboration between Egypt and Spain, focusing on investment and trade opportunities.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place during the Fruit Attraction exhibition in Madrid, which serves as a significant global platform for agricultural trade and technological advancements.
The ministers acknowledged the progress in Egyptian-Spanish relations and discussed strategies to expand agricultural cooperation. They emphasized the importance of leveraging Spain's expertise to bolster Egypt's agricultural sector, aiming to enhance food security and agricultural production.
Discussions included agricultural insurance, developing cooperatives, and transferring Spain's experience in these areas to Egypt. The goal is to support small-scale farmers and improve services for them. Additionally, they addressed agricultural quarantine issues and challenges affecting trade movements, aiming to facilitate smoother export and import flows.
The talks also covered recent advancements in water-efficient irrigation, greenhouse agriculture, and investment opportunities in Egypt's national projects, such as the New Delta Project. Farouk encouraged Spanish investors to explore opportunities in Egypt's agricultural sector.
Further discussions included aquaculture, livestock genetic improvement, olive value chains, and climate-smart agriculture. Both sides agreed to maintain technical coordination and establish joint working groups to ensure the agreements reached are effectively implemented.
