Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held talks with Singaporean Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim on ways to further advance bilateral relations and broaden the scope of cooperation between the two countries. The two sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the positive trajectory of Egyptian-Singaporean relations and the momentum they have gained in recent months, particularly following the visit of the President of Singapore to Egypt in September 2025. He underscored the importance of following up on the outcomes of the presidential visit, including the implementation of the agreements and memoranda of understanding concluded during the visit.

The minister highlighted the need to explore proposals for further developing bilateral ties across various fields, as Egypt and Singapore prepare to celebrate next year the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Minister Abdelatty also outlined promising opportunities for the localization of priority industries in Egypt, calling on Singaporean companies to expand their investments and capitalize on the competitive advantages offered by the Egyptian economy, particularly the incentives and facilities available in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of further strengthening institutional relations between Egypt and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), in light of Egypt's close ties with the bloc's member states. He noted that Egypt was among the first Arab and African countries to sign the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation with ASEAN in 2016, and expressed Egypt's desire to upgrade its relationship with the association to the status of Sectoral Dialogue Partner.

The talks also covered a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, particularly developments concerning the Palestinian Cause. Minister Abdelatty emphasized the need to move forward with the second phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan and secure Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, among other initiatives.

For his part, the Singaporean minister expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt's efforts to consolidate the ceasefire and implement the understandings reached under the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement. He also commended Egypt's pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of humanitarian and relief assistance to the Gaza Strip.
