Cairo: The foreign ministers of Egypt and nine other countries have expressed strong condemnation of Israel’s decision to appoint a diplomatic envoy to the region referred to as ‘Somaliland.’ The ministers criticized the move as a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

According to State Information Service Egypt, a joint statement was issued by the foreign ministers of Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Bangladesh, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Turkey, and Indonesia on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The statement emphasized their rejection of unilateral actions that threaten state unity and sovereignty.

The ministers collectively reaffirmed their commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, along with their support for Somalia’s legitimate national institutions, which they recognize as the sole representatives of the Somali people.

Furthermore, the statement highlighted that the appointment of a diplomatic envoy to ‘Somaliland’ is a breach of international law, the UN Charter, and the foundational principles of the African Union. The ministers warned that such actions could set a concerning precedent, potentially destabilizing the Horn of Africa and adversely affecting regional peace and security.
