Cairo: Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif met with JICA Vice President Imoto Sachiko to discuss expanding the Egyptian-Japanese Schools project and preparing for the upcoming Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) scheduled for 20-22 August.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdel Latif emphasized the importance of the collaboration between Egypt's Ministry of Education and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), highlighting it as a model of international cooperation in education reform. This was detailed in a Cabinet statement released on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
The Egyptian-Japanese Schools have been successful in integrating Egypt's educational framework with Japan's Tokkatsu practices. These practices are known for focusing on character development through group activities, discipline, and responsibility, which have been effectively incorporated into the Egyptian education system.
The recent meeting reviewed the progress of the project, with plans to open 15 new schools in the 2025/2026 academic year. This expansion is aimed at reinforcing values such as active learning, teamwork, and discipline within Egypt's educational framework.
Additionally, discussions during the meeting included Egypt's involvement in TICAD, where the Ministry of Education intends to showcase the results of the Egypt-Japan educational collaboration. The conference is expected to result in several new agreements to further enhance bilateral cooperation in education.
