Alamein:The Foreign Ministers of Egypt and the Democratic Republic of the Congo recently engaged in discussions to enhance their bilateral relations, with a focus on a number of regional issues of mutual concern.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, met with Th©r¨se Wagner, the Foreign Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. During their meeting, Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's commitment to strengthening ties between the two countries, highlighting the positive outcomes of President F©lix Tshisekedi's visit to Cairo in June. He expressed a desire for increased cooperation in political, economic, and development sectors, along with expanded trade and Egyptian business involvement in Congo's development projects.

The discussions also covered the upcoming Alamein Africa Forum, which will take place alongside the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit in Alamein from October 2 to 4. Abdelatty extended an invitation to Congolese business leaders and companies to participate in the event.

On the topic of water security, both ministers underscored the importance of following international law principles governing transboundary watercourses, particularly the principles of causing no harm and ensuring prior notification. They also highlighted the need for consensus and cooperation to foster inclusiveness within the Nile Basin Initiative.

Additionally, the ministers exchanged views on the current security and political developments in the Horn of Africa and Great Lakes regions. They discussed supporting efforts to achieve regional stability and peace, agreeing to continue their coordination and consultations in pursuit of shared interests.
