Cairo: Egypt and China discussed expanding cultural and educational cooperation and developing new joint projects as the two countries mark 70 years of diplomatic relations. Secretary-General of Egypt's Supreme Council of Culture Ashraf el Azzazi held talks on Saturday, September 12, 2026, with Yu Yingjie, Secretary of the Education Working Committee on the Beijing Municipal Committee.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during the talks, the two officials reviewed cooperation between cultural and educational institutions, exchanges of expertise and new opportunities for young people, researchers and creative professionals in both countries. The discussions highlighted the importance of cultural relations between Egypt and China over the past seven decades and explored prospects for new joint initiatives.

Azzazi emphasized that the 70th anniversary is an opportunity to launch new cultural projects that support closer relations between the two countries and benefit future generations. Yu Yingjie also advocated for continued exchanges between Egyptian and Chinese institutions and wider cooperation in culture and education. Egypt and China established diplomatic relations in 1956.
