India:Egypt emphasized the importance of tax cooperation among BRICS countries at a recent meeting in India. Rasha Abdel Aal, head of the Egyptian Tax Authority, highlighted the potential benefits of exchanging expertise and learning from successful practices among member states.According to State Information Service Egypt, the three-day meeting, held from September 21 to 23, brought together heads and representatives of tax authorities from BRICS countries. Abdel Aal expressed Egypt's eagerness to strengthen cooperation to support tax administration development and modernization.Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman opened the meeting, underscoring the necessity for continued collaboration and expertise exchange in tax-related fields. Abdel Aal reiterated Egypt's commitment to participating in initiatives and working groups under the BRICS framework, focusing on capacity building and supporting the development of tax administration systems.The meeting concluded with a final statement outlining fut ure work areas to enhance tax cooperation. These areas include maintaining governance and cooperation frameworks, supporting specialized working groups, and investing in capacity building. The statement also announced the launch of the BRICS Tax Mutual Learning Lab and the BRICS Tax Support Network to improve taxpayer experiences and cross-border tax clarity.Abdel Aal noted Egypt's role in the 'Tax Inspectors Without Borders' initiative and affirmed the country's readiness to support BRICS nations in transfer pricing and other tax cooperation efforts. The meeting also highlighted the progress of the BRICS Women in Tax Network and developments in various tax administration practices.
