New York:Foreign Minister, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty emphasized the need to bolster the United Nations' role in resolving conflicts peacefully and intensifying efforts to de-escalate and manage crises. His remarks were made during a meeting with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi, the Argentine candidate for the UN Secretary-General post, during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty lauded the cooperation between Egypt and the IAEA, highlighting their commitment to promoting nuclear energy's peaceful use and enhancing the nuclear non-proliferation regime. He noted the technical support Egypt receives from the IAEA under its Technical Cooperation Programme.

Abdelatty also expressed anticipation for the upcoming seventh session of the UN Conference on a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons, scheduled for November in New York. He stated that the conference aims to universalize the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) in the Middle East and ensure all nuclear activities in the region are under the IAEA's safeguards.

The discussion also touched on regional developments, particularly the Iranian nuclear issue. Abdelatty stressed the importance of supporting diplomatic efforts and prioritizing political solutions to prevent further tensions and maintain regional security. He also engaged with Grossi on enhancing the UN's effectiveness in maintaining international peace amid growing global challenges.
