Beijing:Egypt is establishing an integrated system to convert satellite data into practical information and smart solutions to enhance decision-making and development across various sectors, according to Magdy Ismail, CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA).
According to State Information Service Egypt, Ismail made these remarks at the China-Africa Cooperation Week on Satellite Data Applications (CACSA Week 2026) in Beijing. The event included participants from 22 African countries and Chinese governmental, research, and academic institutions specializing in satellite technology, Earth observation, and space-data analysis.
Ismail emphasized the role of the "MisrSat-2" satellite in bolstering Egypt's national capabilities in Earth observation. He described this as a crucial step toward enhancing the country's satellite data utilization for development and decision-making. He also highlighted the importance of collaboration with China in space technology, which has facilitated expertise exchange, technological advancement, and capacity building, promoting the practical application of satellite data for sustainable development.
During the event, Ahmed El-Shal, Director of the Earth Observation Data Processing Department, showcased the Egyptian Space Agency's capabilities and the role of the National Space Data Center in processing and analyzing satellite data. El-Shal also pointed out the use of artificial intelligence and big-data technologies to create practical applications based on satellite imagery and data, aiding in development planning and decision-making.
The Egyptian Space Agency engaged in discussions with Chinese institutions and African delegations on expanding cooperation in satellite data, artificial intelligence, and capacity building. These discussions centered on developing practical applications for satellite data and enhancing its usage across various development sectors.
The event also featured the exchange of commemorative shields between representatives of the Egyptian Space Agency, the Chinese Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, and the head of the Remote Sensing Application Center of the Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources. Egypt's involvement in CACSA Week 2026 is part of its ongoing efforts to expand international cooperation in space technology, strengthen its role in African space collaboration, and transform partnership opportunities into actionable technical and training programs as well as applicable satellite-data services.
