Deputy FM and German Official Deliberate on Enhancing Egypt-Germany Cooperation

Cairo: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Samar el Ahdal engaged in discussions with Mario Sander, Head of the Near East, Middle East and North Africa division at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), during his visit to Egypt. The meeting focused on strategies to enhance economic cooperation and create a structured framework to support the bilateral partnership between Egypt and Germany.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions also explored the potential initiation of negotiations for a new phase of the Egyptian-German debt swap program, anticipated to commence in December 2026. Both parties considered opportunities to reinforce cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, building on the results of previous governmental consultations held in Berlin in November 2025.

Additionally, the German side showed interest in expanding trilateral cooperation in sustainable development with Egypt and African countries. This interest aligns with Egypt’s preparations to host the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit and a business forum in Alamein City in June.
