Cairo: Egypt's Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union Ahmed Abou Zeid highlighted the involvement of the Belgian company "DEME Group" in strategic projects across Egypt, such as those in the Suez Canal, Abu Qir, and Gargoub, as well as initiatives in green hydrogen. This involvement signifies the strengthening economic ties between Egypt and Belgium.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abou Zeid made these remarks during a ceremony in Antwerp celebrating DEME Group's 150th anniversary. The event was attended by Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever and other senior officials, including the Mayor of Antwerp, along with political and economic figures, company executives, and representatives from the Belgian and international business communities.

The ambassador expressed gratitude for DEME's contribution to development projects in Egypt, emphasizing the country's interest in further collaboration with the company. He noted the potential to expand the scope of DEME's projects and investments in the Egyptian market.

The ceremony underscored significant milestones in DEME's history since its founding in 1876, showcasing the company's achievements and projects worldwide, particularly in Egypt. Highlights included DEME's work on the expansion and deepening of the Suez Canal and the development of Abu Qir Port, which is one of the largest dredging and land-reclamation projects in the company's history.

The event also spotlighted the "Gargoub project," a new model of Egyptian-Belgian partnership in infrastructure and clean energy, with investments reaching up to 3 billion pounds. DEME is developing the Gargoub project to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia within the industrial zone of Gargoub Port on Egypt's northwestern coast.
