Cairo: The Director General of the Department of Antiquities Repatriation at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Shaaban Abdel Gawad, stated that the ministry is actively coordinating with relevant bodies both within Egypt and internationally to trace and recover antiquities that have been illegally exported.According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdel Gawad, in an interview with Extra News channel, revealed that 21 artifacts had been successfully retrieved from Australia. This collection included items that were displayed by an Australian auction house without proper ownership documents. Among the recovered artifacts were a royal coffin and an ancient stela known as Sesh Nefertem, spanning various periods of ancient Egyptian history.The assortment of recovered items is extensive, featuring relics from the Fifth Dynasty, a Coptic textile piece depicting a cross, which was part of priestly garments of that era, as well as wooden statues, ivory spindles, Ushabti figurines, and stone artifacts. T he Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities achieved the restoration of these artifacts through collaboration with Egyptian embassies and consulates worldwide.
