Alamein:Leaders from the founding members of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) gathered in Alamein, Egypt, to mark the 25-year transformation of NEPAD into the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD). The summit was held on the sidelines of the African Union's eighth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting and the Alamein Africa Business Forum.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the heads of state from Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa, along with key figures from the African Union and AUDA-NEPAD, celebrated past achievements and discussed future directions. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to sustainable development, peace, and good governance across the continent.
The summit acknowledged significant progress in infrastructure and regional integration but also noted challenges such as financing gaps and implementation capacity. The leaders stressed the importance of the African private sector, small and medium-sized enterprises, and youth and women in driving Agenda 2063.
The Alamein Declaration was adopted, emphasizing the need for stronger partnerships and increased financial commitments from member states to ensure the agency's effectiveness. The declaration also called for the establishment of the Alamein Investment Platform and initiatives to support small and medium-sized enterprises and job creation.
The summit concluded with a pledge to continue convening regularly and to translate commitments into measurable outcomes, advancing Africa's development agenda and positioning the continent as a leader in global growth and investment.
