UK Commons Speaker and Egyptian Ambassador Discuss Strengthening Parliamentary Cooperation

London: Speaker of the British House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle met with Egypt's Ambassador to the United Kingdom Ashraf Sweilam to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and expanding parliamentary cooperation, according to a statement released by the foreign ministry.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the two sides reviewed the long-standing historical relations between Egypt and Britain and explored ways to enhance cooperation at various levels, focusing on the role of parliamentary institutions in supporting the bilateral relationship.

Both officials expressed their commitment to boosting cooperation between the Egyptian and British parliaments through increased exchanges of visits and the sharing of legislative expertise. The Commons speaker indicated his anticipation for an upcoming visit to Egypt, appreciating the country's cultural and historical significance. He also expressed his intention to visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, describing it as one of the world's top cultural projects.

Ambassador Sweilam highlighted the deep-rooted historical bonds between Egypt and the UK, as well as the ongoing political and economic cooperation. He emphasized Egypt's interest in strengthening parliamentary dialogue and coordination to advance shared interests.

The meeting also addressed future prospects for Egyptian-British relations, particularly in anticipation of an upcoming visit by the British prime minister to Cairo. During this visit, the two countries are expected to announce the elevation of their relationship to a strategic partnership.
