Sokhna port: The Ministry of Transport, represented by the Egyptian maritime ports company, announced on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, the start of trial operation for the first phase of the general cargo and dry bulk terminal at Sokhna Port. The terminal received its first general cargo vessel, GAMBELLA, operated by Dominion Shipping Agency, carrying 1,460 metric tons of battery units for an energy storage system.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministry stated that the vessel was received and berthed and that its cargo was unloaded and handled as part of the trial operations plan, in full coordination with the relevant authorities and service providers at the port.

Unloading operations were carried out by Suez Mechanical Stevedoring Company, one of the ministry's affiliated companies. This reflects the importance of integration and cooperation among the ministry's companies and the optimal use of their available capabilities and expertise, contributing to greater efficiency across the port's operations.

The ministry noted that the trial operation of the first phase of the general cargo and dry bulk terminal at Sokhna Port comes within the framework of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to develop Egypt's maritime transport system, transform the country into a regional hub for transportation, logistics, and transit trade, maximize the use of Egyptian ports and strengthen their ability to serve trade, industrial and logistics activity.
