Treatment at State Expense Surpasses EGP 25bn in 8 Months

Cairo: Ministry of Health and Population on Saturday, September 5, 2026, said that spending on state-funded medical treatment hit EGP 25.235 billion during the first eight months of 2026, benefiting more than 2.6 million patients, in line with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to ease the financial burden on patients and maintain state support for comprehensive healthcare.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the services benefited 2,628,702 patients, for whom 2,956,125 treatment decisions were issued under the state-funded healthcare program, Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar said.

Assistant Minister of Health and Population for Therapeutic Affairs Peter Wagih said the ministry continued implementing its Integrated Services Card program, which aims to empower people with disabilities and facilitate their integration into society.

Since the launch of the dedicated electronic platform, medical committees have examined and assessed 210,297 applicants seeking the card, as part of the ministry's efforts to digitize medical assessments and facilitate access to services and benefits for eligible applicants.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Akkad, Director-General of the Specialized Medical Councils Department, highlighted that social support and logistical empowerment initiatives had also experienced a surge in activity.
