Transport Minister Reviews Progress on 500-km Sinai Railway Project

Cairo: Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir inspected on Friday, September 18, 2026, progress on the rehabilitation, development and construction of the 500-km El-Ferdan-East Port Said-Bir El-Abd-Arish-Taba railway line, a key component of the integrated Arish-Taba international logistics corridor. The project is designed to strengthen Sinai's integration with the national railway network, support passenger and freight transport, and promote industrial, commercial, mining, and tourism development.

According to State Information Service Egypt, El-Wazir reviewed work on the 83-km Bir El-Abd-Arish section, including earthworks and seven stations, as well as a 12-km railway link to Arish Port. He directed contractors to work around the clock while maintaining high quality standards and adhering to the project's timetable. He also reviewed plans for the remaining sections linking Arish with Hassana and Taba.

The Minister stated that the project would facilitate freight movement and exports through Arish and Taba ports, while serving communities across North, Central, and South Sinai.
