Transport, Electricity Ministers Explore Wind Farm Site Prospects

Cairo: Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat paid a field visit to Jabal Sahaba in Sinai and Jabal Ataqa in Suez to inspect potential sites for new wind farm projects. Accompanied by the Heads of the New and Renewable Energy Authority and the Canal Electricity Distribution Company, the ministers explored several high-altitude locations at Jabal Sahaba and Jabal Ataqa.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministers reached elevations of 640 meters at Jabal Sahaba and 870 meters at Jabal Ataqa. During their visit, they reviewed real-time wind speeds, assessed the geographic suitability of the sites, and examined the routes for power transmission grids. The exploration is part of a broader plan to expand renewable energy initiatives and aims to increase the share of renewables in the national energy mix to 45% by 2028.

The visit supports the state's strategy to introduce new generating capacities, reduce fuel consumption, and lower carbon emissions. By optimizing the country's abundant natural wind and solar resources, the initiative seeks to achieve sustainable development goals.
