New delhi: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has emphasized India's role as a vital strategic partner in an article published by India's The Economic Times in anticipation of the 18th BRICS Summit. He praised India's upcoming 2026 BRICS chairmanship and outlined areas for deeper cooperation between the two nations.
According to State Information Service Egypt, President Sisi highlighted Egypt's strategic location and its extensive network of ports and trade ties as key factors in enhancing regional connectivity. He welcomed investment initiatives through the Suez Canal Economic Zone and called for increased collaboration in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, renewable energy, green hydrogen, and IT. Academic and research partnerships were also encouraged to provide greater opportunities for the youth of both countries.
During his visit to New Delhi for the BRICS Summit, President Sisi congratulated India on its 2026 presidency and commended its efforts to foster cooperation among member states amidst geopolitical and economic challenges. He underscored the importance of creating efficient and adaptable global trade networks, viewing Egypt as a pivotal hub for global trade and value chains.
President Sisi expressed the desire to boost local manufacturing, technology transfer, and cooperation in shared priority sectors, along with strengthening ties among universities and research institutions. He emphasized the potential for Egyptian-Indian cooperation on the African continent, aligning with the priorities and needs of African countries to support sustainable development.
Egypt's accession to BRICS in 2024 has opened broader avenues for collaboration with India and other member states. Its membership in the New Development Bank has also contributed to diversifying tools for developmental and economic cooperation. Both Egypt and India see BRICS as a platform for cooperation and dialogue, rather than a framework against any country or group.
Amidst escalating international competition, Egypt's foreign policy is guided by strategic balance, independence in decision-making, and diversified partnerships. The Palestinian cause remains central to lasting peace in West Asia, with Egypt advocating for a just settlement that restores Palestinian rights, including establishing an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
