Cairo: In a detailed letter addressed to 'The Sun', Ambassador Alaa Youssef, Chairman of the Egypt Information Service, has formally refuted allegations made against Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital. These allegations were published in an article titled, 'OP 'BLUNDER' Brit mum, 29, 'had her APPENDIX mistakenly removed by doctors after getting food poisoning while on hols in Egypt',' authored by Mr. Joe Rogers and published on June 21, 2026.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the article claims that Ms. Sian Irving underwent an unnecessary appendectomy and other medical interventions at the hospital in September 2025. Ambassador Youssef expressed his surprise that the story was published nearly a year after Ms. Irving's visit to Sharm El Sheikh, a city renowned for attracting numerous tourists and medical visitors annually.

The Ambassador firmly denied any wrongdoing by the hospital, emphasizing that the facility is equipped with advanced medical technology and staffed by competent professionals. He stated that the hospital meets international standards and enjoys recognition from both Egyptian authorities and global evaluation agencies.

Ambassador Youssef clarified that official records from Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital, reviewed by the Egyptian Ministry of Health and the Egyptian Healthcare Authority, indicate that Ms. Irving's visit on September 29, 2025, involved only a routine abdominal examination and a CT scan at her request. No further medical procedures or treatments were conducted, and she left the hospital immediately after receiving her test results.

The letter further asserted that Ms. Irving was never admitted to the hospital's emergency or general operating areas and did not undergo any surgeries or receive any treatment from the hospital. The Ambassador highlighted that no formal complaints or service review requests have been filed by Ms. Irving or her legal representatives.

In closing, Ambassador Youssef requested that The Sun publish this response in line with international professional standards and the publication's own editorial and corrections policies, as well as the regulations of the Independent Press Standards Organization (IPSO), to ensure a balanced portrayal of the situation.
