Cairo: The State Information Service (SIS) and Dar Al-Ifta have signed a cooperation protocol to promote moderate religious discourse, as announced at the conclusion of the 11th International Conference of Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, held in Cairo under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the protocol aims to coordinate national media and public awareness efforts, strengthen the role of development and community media in fostering informed public awareness, and support family cohesion while safeguarding national identity. Grand Mufti of Egypt Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayyad emphasized that the protocol reflects Dar Al-Ifta's commitment to closer cooperation between religious and media institutions in addressing contemporary intellectual and societal challenges.
Dr. Ayyad highlighted that this collaboration with the SIS seeks to convey a message that combines sound religious principles with an understanding of contemporary realities. He noted the media's crucial role in protecting the family unit, raising public awareness, and promoting moderation and social cohesion. The protocol will serve as a framework for producing accessible content on religious and family issues, countering misinformation and extremist ideas, and supporting efforts to prevent family breakdown and preserve national identity.
Ambassador Alaa Youssef, Chairman of the Board of the State Information Service, expressed the SIS's dedication to working with Dar Al-Ifta to promote a sound understanding of Islam on both national and global platforms. He emphasized that the SIS would leverage its media platforms and centers across Egypt, along with its engagement with foreign correspondents and international media outlets, to support Dar Al-Ifta's public awareness messages and provide content in multiple foreign languages.
Youssef stated that this cooperation would assist in correcting misconceptions, promoting the values of moderation, and raising awareness of societal issues. It aims to expand the reach of moderate religious discourse and highlight the efforts of the Egyptian state, led by its key institutions, to combat radical thoughts and misconceptions. Furthermore, Youssef added that the cooperation would help present an accurate image of Islam, emphasizing its principles of mercy, tolerance, and respect for human dignity.
The protocol outlines plans for joint seminars and events, media campaigns, and public awareness programs, as well as the production of media content to address societal challenges arising from technological developments.
